Henry Ford Develops Smartphone App for Cancer Surgery Patients

Detroit, Michigan (PRWEB) September 16, 2013

With a single tap on a smartphone, cancer patients now can access detailed information about treatment options by cancer type, GPS mapping to appointment locations, as well as schedule appointments and connect to their electronic medical record.

The new “app” from the Center for Cancer Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital is the first to be developed in the U.S. specifically for cancer surgery patients. It is free and available for download in the App Store on Android and Apple devices.

Already, the Center for Cancer Surgery app is among the top searched choices for the keywords “cancer” and “surgery” in the Apple app store.

“This app is meant to serve as an at-a-glance touch point to locate physicians and nurses on an individual patient’s care team, and it is searchable by diagnosis and department,” says neurosurgeon Steven Kalkanis, M.D., director of the Center for Cancer Surgery, part of the Josephine Ford Cancer Institute.

“Our hope is that this app will add another dimension to the personalized care offered to our patients and help to alleviate much of the stress and uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis by providing them with the tools and resources they need at their fingertips.”

The new app provides patients with:

Treatment by Cancer Type: Detailed information about diagnostic, surgical and research options for more than a dozen types of cancer, including breast, prostate, lung and liver.

Appointment Scheduling: A secure appointment request form to schedule a first appointment, second opinion or consult with a cancer specialist.

“Click to Call”: With the touch of a button, patients can be directly connected to a cancer specialist or nurse via the Center for Cancer Surgery’s 24-hour cancer hotline at (888) 777-4167. This feature also is available on the pages throughout the app.

GPS Directions: Get driving directions or public transportation routes to all of the JFCI locations in southeastern Michigan.

Meet Your Team: Through photos and expert profiles, patients can “meet” their healthcare team, so they know in advance who will be caring for them.

Clinical Trials: Through a secure form, Henry Ford can match patients to the clinical trials that would be the best fit for them, freeing patients from attempting to self-assess and wade through cumbersome trial information.

Connect to MyChart: Patients can download and connect directly to the MyChart app, a secure electronic medical record portal that allows patients to consult their doctor via secure messaging, view lab, radiology or test results, and renew prescriptions.

Additional app features include buttons that connect patients to an educational video library, and information about the Josephine Ford Cancer Institute’s tumor board, focus on quality and safety, and comprehensive care.

The app is expected to continue to grow to include even more features, including those for cancer survivors and cancer wellness information.

The Center for Cancer Surgery opened in September 2012 on the Henry Ford Hospital campus in Detroit. It is home to the Michigan’s first Intraoperative Magnetic Resonance Imaging (iMRI) scanner and it is a national leader in neurosurgery for brain tumors and robotic surgery for prostate, kidney, gynecology, thoracic and head and neck cancers.

Additionally, the Center for Cancer Surgery offers patients same-day appointments with a team of cancer experts, a nurse navigator to guide patients though the treatment process, a 24/7 cancer line, and patient concierge services to make hospital visits as worry-free as possible for out-of-town patients and their families.

Bank of America Receives a Third of Negative Comments Made Online about the US Banking Sector According To Latest Findings from DigitalMR

Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB UK) 28 February 2012

Social media research specialist DigitalMR releases latest findings on what customers are saying about US financial service companies online.

DigitalMR analysed thousands of customer comments regarding banks for the month of November 2011. Interestingly a large proportion of customer views monitored were positive (62%), compared with 38% being negative about their customer experiences.

DigitalMR’s report (powered by SocialNuggets) analyses thousands of customer comments posted via a range of relevant finance related websites and open access social media platforms. It measures not only the number of comments posted by consumers on the internet, but also sentiment – whether these posts are positive or negative.

Results are based on comments posted by consumers on the major US banks: CitiBank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, US Bank, American Express, HSBC, Capital One, Barclays, JP Morgan Chase Manhattan and US Bancorp.

The banking service brands with the highest share of overall mentions were: Amex (27%), Bank of America (22%), Citibank (17%), and Wells Fargo (15%).

There was, however, a large difference between the positive and negative mentions that these banks generated. Amex achieves the highest share of positive comments (36%) but only 12% of negative ones. Conversely, Bank of America attracted the largest share of negative comments (33%) which is more than twice its share of positive ones (16%).

Taking the difference between positive and negative posts into consideration, the winner for November is Amex with a Net Sentiment Score (NSS) of 66%, followed by US Bank with 64%.

Third placed is Capital One with an NSS of 40%. A strong NSS score is an indication of high overall satisfaction levels among customers. Only one bank had a negative NSS – Bank of America with a NSS of minus 11%.

Ryan Rutan, President of DigitalMR USA commented: “nearly two-thirds of all customer feedback measured has been positive which is good news for US banks and Amex in particular. However Bank of America continues to receive a higher proportion of bad reviews and this month is the only bank with a negative NSS of minus 11”

Features and Services

DigitalMR measured thousands of customer posts across November regarding the services and features that banks offer. Services attracting a much higher proportion of positive mentions to negative ones included: Credit Cards (39% positive vs 15% negative). Services attracting a higher proportion of negative comments included: Mortgages (10% positive vs 23% negative).

In their words – sample customer comments

Amex:

“Amex, you guys are excellent. Your transactions reconcile faster than any other banks I deal with, your gold card knows no limits (pardon the pun), & your customer service is top notch. Never an issue disputing a charge on the off chance I have one and each time I have to use customer service, the staff is empowered to take a corrective step if necessary rather than asking a manager ever 30 seconds”

http://www.mybanktracker.com/bank-reviews/American-Express/Always-On-Point-3913

US Bank:

“I love the app – huge improvement over the last app – but I’d like to have the option to make payments to my U.S. Bank Visa Credit Card, U.S. Bank CreditLine, and U.S. Bank Home Mortgage all from the mobile app. Perhaps consider this for your next revision? Otherwise the app is great. :)”

http://www.facebook.com/usbank?sk=wall

Bank of America:

“New BofA Online Bank web site is a NIGHTMARE”

First time I tried a transfer, no detail showed but the balance show a decrease, I called customer support and they couldn’t find the transaction and suggested I do it again. Well you guessed, the next day 2 identical transactions showed and it ran my balance below zero. So now I had to call customer service and get them to reverse the transfer and tomorrow I get to call again to reverse the overdraft fee”.

Wells Fargo

“I just closed a 6 figure account with wells fargo today and the bank officer did not care!! Since wells fargo took over wachovia, the service has been horrendous. The bank officer in the syosset, ny branch gave me incorrect information so when i went to florida to specifically take care of business for my mother’s account; i could not complete this business.

The Basics of Digital Signage Solutions

Digital signage solutions are electronic displays that telecast advertisements, information and other relevant messages. Digital signs can be easily located everywhere in places such as markets, retail shops, office buildings and cinemas. These digital signs normally include plasma display, projection, LCD or LED. Digital display requires personal computers to control them with the help of most advance and delicate proprietary software tools.

Today with the advent of incredible technologies there exist numbers of digital signage solutions to help you and your business.  It is commonly said that digital signage solutions helps you become closer to your target audience and even engage an interaction with them. Most business owner are even considering it more productive compared to static banners. Now it’s time for you to know the merits of digital signage solutions that you and your business can enjoy.

Digital signage solutions confer unlimited space, it is unlike those static banners that are always limited in size within the banner. Digital signage solutions have the capacity to store greater data that allows us to show greater information to our spectators. This bounty could be brought in use to show any kind of advertisement that static banners can never be thought of doing as digital signage solutions use virtually infinite visual data.

Digital signage solutions are designed in such a way that the operator could control the entire system being remote. The stress of manually replacing the static banner, for getting your advertisement, is over with the advent of digital signage solutions. With this magnificent software one can upload schedules, files, turn on and reboot the system, and without getting close to the system each and every thing is examined.

Nowadays even inexperienced and unskilled users are also able to design digital displays by just a few cursor clicks with the most advanced and beneficial digital signage solutions. 8 out of 10 business owners prefer digital signage solutions over traditional static banners as they offer the suppleness to carry out many computer tasks in operating them.

In comparison with many other static displays and marketing techniques digital signage solutions are counted as the most economical. The switching and updating of images is just a click away regardless of how distanced you are from the system, this facility saves you printing and a bit of transport cost. The promotions can be kept updated without employing any manpower. Digital signage solutions reach directly to your target audience and hammer their mind and soul better than others and they are also a noteworthy tool for producer-customer interaction.

Pinterest takes early social network lead in 2012 according to OnlineSchools.com infographic

Foster City, CA (PRWEB) March 07, 2012

OnlineSchools.com, a digital resource for online education from kindergarten to graduate school, recently launched an infographic that gives insight into the relatively sudden emergence of Pinterest, the latest social sharing phenomenon. In the last six months of 2011, the site experienced 815% traffic growth, leaving some wondering, “What is Pinterest?” Effectively, Pinterest acts as a virtual bulletin board, letting members “pin” visuals on the web and share them with their followers. By following any number of member-curated “boards” dealing with topics such as education technology trends , a “pinhead” may stay up to date through images that also serve as bookmarks. OnlineSchools.com created this infographic to break down why, and how, over one million members are using Pinterest.

“Our visitors often ask about Pinterest and how it relates to education,” said Seth Restaino, OnlineSchools.com spokesperson. “This infographic really helps to elucidate the idea of virtual pinboards. It will be interesting to see how students, teachers and so forth will integrate them into their curricula and coursework.”

Though Pinterest was founded by 29-year-old Ben Silbermann from Iowa, the vast majority of the site’s users are women. Among the most popular pinheads are moms and teachers who share ideas for classroom and at-home activities that they feel are engaging, creative and educational.

“As an educational technology site, OnlineSchools.com is committed to keeping up to date on the latest Internet and social media trends,” expressed Restaino. “We are also committed to informing our community about these trends so that they might also have the opportunity to leverage them–especially for educational purposes.”

Targets of Opportunity Still Hackers Best Friends, With Some New Twists, Mid-Year 2013 ENISA Report Shows

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 25, 2013

One thing is proven relentlessly in this digital age, cyber crime has no borders. So even though the Threat Landscape, Mid-year 2013 report published last week is the work of the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA), “The finding are just as relative to organizations here in the US,” says Joe Caruso, founder and CEO/CTO of Global Digital Forensics (GDF), a premier cyber security solutions provider based out of New York, “ and failing to stay up-to-date and informed about all the current trends in cyber threats and delivery methods is one sure way to put any organization’s digital assets at risk. That’s exactly what network vulnerability assessments conducted by knowledgeable and competent professionals are designed to do, but doing them regularly is also paramount in the fluid and ever-evolving world of cyber crime.”

Oldies still topping the charts.

“One thing that should catch everyone’s eye is the fact that almost every type of threat trended up compared to last year, with the exception of spam, which has slowly but steadily been being replaced with much more effective phishing and spear phishing campaigns. But holding the “king of the hill” title is still the Drive-by-exploit, which you can think of as taking advantage of a target of opportunity. A Drive-by can take many forms, but they usually involve misdirection, like fake pop-up ads that prompt you to click on an ad or a fake error message that make you think you’re getting one thing while delivering quite another when you navigate to a site which has been injected with malicious code. The bad news is that many of the sites hosting the malicious code may be legitimate and are often not even aware that they have been infected, and that they are facilitating the spread of malware to others. But once the injected code is happened upon, it can take advantage of weaknesses in popular applications like Adobe Reader and Air, Flash and Java, browser exploits, or even unpatched operating system vulnerabilities. And from there the hacker responsible is free to wreak havoc with their newly found access to the victim and their network.”

Easier access to exploits and harder to follow their tracks.

“One of the constants across the board is that hackers are getting better at covering their tracks by using delivery methods which are much harder to track, from leveraging cloud and mobile technology, to an increased focus on using malicious URLs. The most frightening aspect though, is that these days almost anyone with the desire to hack others and a few dollars to invest can gain access to powerful malware that is almost as easy as a point and shoot camera, for everything from code injection, to DDoS attacks (Distributed Denial of Service), because black market exploits are increasingly easy to find on numerous hacker boards, and anonymous digital currencies like Bitcoins are making those kinds of transactions that much harder to trace.”

Don’t try this at home.

“It takes a full and focused commitment to stay on top of everything when it comes to cyber threats, with new tactics, vulnerabilities and malware hitting the scene all the time. So it only makes sense that trying to handle the task completely internally will come up far short most of the time. Having professional network vulnerability assessments regularly performed by seasoned experts like our teams at GDF really slides the effectiveness scale way up. We live and breathe this stuff, so it’s not an interruption of our job, which is what it typically turns into for organizations trying to trudge the cyber security path alone, it’s the purpose of our job. And our commitment to staying informed, educated, and fully competent in today’s threat landscape, while also keeping an eye on the trends developing for tomorrow, will not be rivaled by any client’s internal IT pros.”

The key is understanding how the threat landscape can affect a particular organization’s weak points and unique digital architecture.

“Every client’s needs are unique. A retailer and a financial institution will typically have very different vulnerabilities to worry about, not only from a technology standpoint, but also from a regulatory compliance standpoint. The same goes for health care organizations, universities, design firms, infrastructure entities and so on, and we’ve worked with them all. That broad expertise gives us a big leg up when it comes to identifying weaknesses with our comprehensive network vulnerability assessments and professional penetration testing. It allows us to streamline the process to make it the most effective and revealing for any type of client, while keeping costs in check by not chasing ghosts which are completely irrelevant to the client’s situation; one client may need an extreme focus put on mobile devices, another cloud services, another vulnerable applications. We look at the big picture first, then start focusing on the necessary details. In the end, the client’s cyber security posture is not only substantially improved, but the groundwork for regulatory compliance and emergency incident response are also developed and/or strengthened. And that can make a huge difference in both the devastating costs a successful cyber attack can have, as well as the lost client trust and business integrity that can suffer right along with it. In a nutshell, the advantages of professionally conducted network vulnerability assessments and penetration testing far outweigh the potentially sky-high costs of inaction.
