nice demo
Google “soundcard packet radio” there is tons of free software that’ll give
you TNC ability… You’ll need to build a serial keyer cable but there is
plenty of information about that online as well… I don’t own a tnc, but
can check into BBSs in the ares no problem.
In the meantime lookup “soundmodem” under linux
I have been wanting to try 2 meter packet. I can hear the packet bursts on
one of the 2 meter packet frequencies, so I would assume there is a certain
degree of activity in the area. I just don’t know if I really want to spend
several hundred dollars just to check into a BBS system.
I don’t blame you! My suggestion would be to look around at ham swapfests
for used TNCs. I’ve picked them up for as little as $2. Even the oldest
ones will give you basic packet.
Joe, you’re the first person I’ve met who’s made it work. I’ve been to the
site you mention and it lists option after option. Can you write up what
you did? In other words, from among all those options, what you picked and
how you made the parts talk to each other and together do what a hardware
TNC does. The devil is in the details, and its those details I can’t get to
work.
