Brand Building with Outdoor Digital Signage

Outdoor digital signage has been a boon for brands and generating brand awareness. For many companies building up brand awareness is an integral part of their marketing strategy – a brand is what separates one particular manufacturer or service provider from another. The brand could be the product name, business name, sign, symbol or slogan.

For many industry sectors, the brand is far more important than the product they are attempting to sell, with industries such as fashion and technology heavily reliant on brand identification. So, building up brand awareness is a vital part of ensuring a business, or brand, continues to prosper and to do this requires marketing of the brand to help people identify and begin to trust it.

Generating Brand Awareness

Some companies rely solely on their brand. Many of the sports fashion companies sell products because of their name, not because of the product, as do some famous technology companies that produce phones and tablets.

Outdoor digital signage is a great way of generating brand awareness. Digital signage is not TV, nor is it print – it is a new media which is viewed and engaged with differently. Unlike TV advertisements that last up to 30 seconds, digital signage content is viewed for perhaps 3 seconds maximum – less with outdoor digital signage.

You are, therefore, limited to the amount of content that can be displayed; complicated, multi-product advertisements do not work so well, there is not enough time for people to absorb complicated information like prices, or the main benefits of a feature or product – but there is time a plenty to promote the brand.

Many outdoor digital signage screens do just that; displaying a log or company name with perhaps a brief transition to a slogan; however, some people could deem this as a waste – surely it would be more cost effective to use a print media for such promotion.

Ah, but you are forgetting that digital signage is different enough top be engaged differently. It’s brighter, more eye-catching and with the use of transitions and moving images it draws the eye and is more engaging.

Life-Prints Introduces a New Solution for Child Identification and Protection Software

Westerly, RI (PRWEB) December 13, 2006 –

Many parents go out of their way to find technological solutions to protect their children. Some invest in current photo child ID cards, medical information bracelets and detailed record organization systems. While these are all helpful proactive measures, a new generation of child protection tools has evolved. Life-Prints is revolutionizing the way home-based technology is used to protect children by formatting critical data specifically for law enforcement purposes.

The Life-Prints’ child protection software is designed to minimize the amount of time it takes to release vital information to law enforcement authorities and to makes it easy to keep this information as current as possible. An emergency button provides built-in transmission to Law Enforcement and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Available in both single child and family versions, Life-Prints provides storage for six high-definition photos. These photos are updated and maintained at the family’s convenience. The software helps parents maintain vital identification information, physical descriptions, allergy and medical information and contact lists, including contact information for children’s schools and friends. The software is fully compatible with digital fingerprint technology in wide use today.

The developers of Life-Prints worked directly with the developers of Critical Reach, a police missing persons bulletin system serving more than 1500 law enforcement agencies nationwide, to ensure that the child safety software would work seamlessly with their system. Todd Bower, Executive Director of Critical Reach, explains, “To the extent Life Print [Life-Prints] is successful in getting parents and schools on board, it will make the very important current photo of the child more readily available to local law enforcement… it will improve response time accordingly.”

One of the most helpful features of Life-Prints is an emergency button that provides instant transmission of a child’s profile to local law enforcement and to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The software also allows unlimited printing of child ID cards, unlike annual event-based programs which don’t allow more than one per year. Life-Prints also enables the maintenance of digital fingerprint files created by any device capable of producing FBI standard EFT prints.

“When a child goes missing, what matters most is time and information,” says Sgt. Kenneth Roman, police liaison from the Poughkeepsie, NY Police Department. “A great deal of critical time is lost while parents go in search of files containing sometimes outdated photographs and or smudged fingerprint cards. With Life-Prints, parents can now immediately provide law enforcement the essential tools needed to greatly increase the odds of a successful recovery.”

Indianapolis Museum of Art and Scala InfoChannel Guide the Way to Inform Museum Visitors

Exton, PA (PRWEB) February 12, 2007

Scala Inc., (http://www.scala.com) the industry leader in end-to-end digital signage software announces the deployment of a digital signage network for the Indianapolis Museum of Art by Scala Certified Partner Digital AV (http://www.digital-avd.com).

When the Indianapolis Museum of Art contacted Digital AV about Scala InfoChannel® software, the Indiana based digital signage company knew it was in for an interesting artistic journey. Part of the $ 220 million expansion program under development at IMA included the vision for a dynamic visual greeting system for visitors and guests as they entered the new Glass Rotunda at the front of the Museum. The entrance was designed with exposed structural steel framework and a glass curtain wall system creating a large, open environment to welcome visitors. The problem was, the beautiful open area left visitors without a focal point of direction and, considering potential visitor counts in thousands for key events, IMA staff knew they had to pull the minds eye of the visitors to a central point of key information.

Enter Mike Prusa, Manager of IMA Ticketing and Visitors Division, who had seen digital signage used in other large museums throughout the country and knew it was exactly what the entrance needed to help guide their guests to the wide range of museum locations. A call to Tom Johnson, president of Digital AV, brought the museum in closer to their quest for a signage system that would do more than one thing at the same time. Johnson recommended three large digital displays, positioned together on a custom designed steel floor stand from Premier Mounts, with special mounting brackets for flexible positioning.

The Scala InfoChannel software recommended was able to drive the three independent monitors with Scala’s robust InfoChannel platform. The computer driven images would be playing in constant rotation but independently controlled by an external server in a remote location. Information displayed includes museum ticket prices, upcoming museum events and exhibits, various museum attractions and other important location information.

With InfoChannel, the museum would alleviate the need to replace constantly changing wall hangings, posters or looping videotapes within the beautiful new space. After presentations to the entire IMA senior staff, and budget approval, the project was released and the Digital AV team swung into action. The large custom LCD mount was ordered along with the 32″ LCD monitors from LG Commercial Displays. Custom computers from Equus with pre-loaded Scala images on a security enabled, “ghost drive” keeps the content secure and the system easy to manage.

Johnson noted the esthetic and ambient light challenge within the large Rotunda. “With all the light and space challenges it turned out very well, easy to read and colorful, and the IMA content looks great on the system.” Johnson also spoke about the return on investment for the DS system. The IMA’s challenge was to quickly and efficiently help their guests to a destination decision and to guide them there after the ticket purchase. “We think the Digital Signage System answers both of those challenges with a high quality, high technology solution,” said Johnson. “It has had to already pay for itself with speed to destination efficiencies.”

The project was finished in just 90 days and now curators can show a wealth of IMA information through scheduled multimedia playback on the low-profile screens instead of having to cover walls with bulletin boards or worry about replacing degrading or outdated CD’s and cassettes.

The Scala information display system now shows content that can be updated remotely to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Content is changed by periodic or exact schedule, so the museum staff can easily adjust to the expected audience depending on the season or even the time of day.

The main admissions desk signage includes the 3 high-resolution LG Commercial 32″ LCD screens that show information about the latest museum exhibits with options to grow the network. The ticket counter proved to be the perfect place to educate visitors about ongoing exhibits as well as daily events, and it is continuously updated behind the cashier. IMA staff has expressed high satisfaction with the new system.

The screens can also be tied into the same Scala InfoChannel electronic signage system and administered centrally by InfoChannel Network Manager in the museum’s control room. Creative work and textual updates are also conceived in the same room via Scala’s InfoChannel Designer. When published, changes can either be seen instantly or scheduled to appear later throughout the building.

The high-resolution images are transmitted over the IMA Local Area Network (LAN) and can be dispatched anywhere in the buildings. The changing exhibits area was designed with the future in mind for transmitting computer graphics, video and audio to produce a truly interactive exhibit space.

Simple Solutions for Digital Signage

Digital signage is a burgeoning media. Since the advent of the flat panel TV its growth has been quite dramatic and is found in all manner of places: shopping malls, retail parks, pharmacies, petrol/gas stations, doctor’s waiting rooms, and even outside as outdoor digital signage.

There are a wide variety of solutions available for digital signage, or digital out of home (Dooh) to give it its other official moniker, and these can vary in both cost and complexity.

When it comes to looking for a simpler solution, for people who, perhaps, just want to try the media out, or are just looking for an inexpensive solution, it can be difficult to eliminate the complexities. Yet, there are some simple and inexpensive solutions out there — it’s all about knowing what to look out for.

The components of Digital Signage

There are essentially just two components to any digital signage system:

The screen
A media player or other system for storing and uploading content

So for a simple digital signage solution all that is really required is an LCD screen and small device to load up the content. There does, however, need to be some sort of protection for most digital signage displays as they are vulnerable to impacts and are prime targets for vandalism and potential theft, if a media player is used it will need to be housed with the screen so some sort of LCD enclosure will be required.

Simple Solutions

A digital poster is a turnkey solution that just encompasses the basic. The screen and media player are all contained in the poster, which has enough protection to ensure it can operate in an indoor environment.  Digital posters are a simple solution but they are limited as to where they can go. If you wish to embark on outdoor digital signage then added protection will be required.

Outdoor Digital Signage

Outdoor LCD enclosures offer a simple solution for outdoor digital signage. A standard commercial grade screen, along with a media player (or compact PC) can be housed in the LCD enclosure which will protect everything inside from the weather elements and offer a good physical barrier against impacts and vandalism.

Hollywood Fans Get Connected

Hemet, CA (PRWEB) February 14, 2007

The Internet has radically altered the way movie fans learn about their favorite films and then communicate that information with each other. Film web sites have now exploded into a veritable kaleidoscope of public bulletin boards, cinema-based social networking groups and highly opinionated movie lover blogs.

Most recently, at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, there were a record number of fan-side folks blogging from Park City, Utah. No longer do movie lovers have to wait for Ebert & Roeper on a Sunday night or the Friday entertainment section of their local newspaper. Film appreciation is a 24/7 self-serve proposition, with cell phones coming up from the rear to further fuel this revolutionary fire.

FilmStew.com, a Hollywood based film and entertainment portal, has taken fan appreciation to a new level with their Project Tracker where fans can be notified anytime their favorite stars are attached to movie projects. FilmStew Chairman, John Culton, explains, “Fans and cinephiles alike can use the Project Tracker system not only to know what their favorite stars are doing, but to follow the filmmaking progress from development through production to completion.

FilmStew is also known for its edgy content and blogs.

“Through our blogs, ‘Hollywood Spin’ and ‘In Hollywood’, FilmStew is able to offer movie fans unique perspectives on the goings on of Tinseltown,” explains Richard Horgan, Director of Content for FilmStew.com. “One is a highly opinionated take on the latest movie topics and trends, while the other is written more from the day-to-day POV of a journalist working in the entertainment journalism trenches.”

“Readers have the ability to share with us their comments and reactions to each item,” he continues. “It’s the way they have become used to interacting with the Internet, and in many cases their observations add a whole new perspective to what is being covered.”

Other digital tools such as FilmStew’s Contact Directory provide further access to filmmakers and filmmaking. “Contact Directory isn’t exactly a fan tool, but for the twenty million film workers worldwide it’s a must have.” says Culton, “It provides contact data and in many instances who represents the producer, writer, or talent.”

Keeping the Faith ? Advantages of Outdoor Digital Signage for Churches

Modern churches are continually looking for new ways to attract larger congregations and to ensure the local community are aware of coming events in the church calendar.

Traditionally, churches have relayed on static notice-boards, posters and even bill boards to get their message across but now, thanks to the growth of outdoor digital signage, this task has become easier.

Many churches, and for that matter, synagogues, temples and mosques, are installing outdoor digital signage outside their religious buildings to communicate with their congregation – as well as spreading the message of God.

Outdoor displays have great advantages over other mediums for this sort of task. An outdoor digital signage screen cab scheduled to relay content at specific times – so when the congregation is arriving for service, messages about future events can be relayed, yet, when there is no service the device can be used to spread religious messages or encourage other members of the local community to join.

Churches are not profitable organisations so any expenditure on an outdoor digital signage device needs to be kept to a minimum; while financial savings can be made with the use of outdoor screens by doing away with the need to get signs and advertisements printed and erected – further savings can be made in the selection of outdoor digital signage hardware.

Many outdoor digital signage systems are installed using waterproof or outdoor TVs, which seems an obvious choice, after-all no outdoor screen can survive without being protected from the weather, yet, outdoor screens are highly expensive and are often out of the budgetary range of most churches.

But there is a far cheaper and just as efficient method if implementing outdoor digital signage – ideal for churches, schools or other public locations.

LCD Enclosures

An LCD enclosure is, on the outset, a simple metal LCD cabinet; however, the beauty of the LCD enclosure is that it can house any type of flat panel LCD or plasma display and keep it completely protected from the weather.

Not only are LCD enclosures weatherproof but the interior of the enclosures contain temperature control modules such as cooling fans, heaters and even air conditioning (for extremely hot weather locations) to ensure that the LCD screen is continually operating in the perfect environment – despite what the ambient conditions are.

LCD enclosures are being implemented outside churches and other religious buildings up and down the country – enabling all the advantages of outdoor digital signage without the expense.

How To Mount Digital Outdoor Signage

Outside electronic signage owing to its distinctiveness is sometimes positioned in some high visible part, but mounting the LCD advertising screen at the accurate height can be an dilemma.

When digital outside advertising is deliberate it will be in a high traffic spot, but one thing to deliberate is how to mount the equipment, in particular when you take the total weight of the equipment and the LCD monitor enclosure into account, as this can be a monstrous 165lb!

If you are in the sector you will be aware of some of the following, so please excuse it as we don’t wish to try and tell you how to suck eggs.

The technique the outside digital advertising systems is mounted is the weakest point of the deployment; some organizations have a policy to fasten the protective LCD housing that protect the solution from the climate and physical assault directly to the wall, other firms based on the location the solution is being employed in need to angle the hardware so customers are not struggling to see the commercials.

There are numerous solutions for mounting a range of defensive LCD monitor cases; let us first look at the LCD casing and how it can be mounted.

Each cabinet can be mounted straight to the wall through the rear wall of the casing, audio visual integrators as a rule use anchor bolts for maximum strength, however if the unit has to be at an angle down this is accomplished using the rear mounting pattern on the enclosure that is 600 x 400 and is well-matched with all VESA 600 x 400 universal brackets, making the device as cost effective as doable, as there is no need to purchase dear mounting frames specific to mount the enclosure.

Do you know what VESA is?VESA is an acronym for Video Electronics Standards Association and is an Intercontinental standard that is used to mount flat panel screens, nonetheless there are the odd manufacturer of digital signage TVs for digital signage that are not compatible with VESA, so you have to obtain over priced mounting frames from the TV manufacturers.

This standard refers to the mounting holes, for instance a 600 x 400 VESA mount has mounting openings on the rear of the TV display at 600 mm wide x 400 mm high on the center line of the screen and varies according to the screen deployed.

Graham is the leading manufacturer a range of LCD enclosures, this range of product is supplied to digital signage integrators throughout the world, now they also offer an indoor solution a digital poster, but it does not have the protection of an LCD enclosure.
